A lot of people want to know the “how and where” when it comes to getting started in business web development. First of all you must have a great passion for entrepreneurship and a healthy knowledge of business. Without a hunger and passion for business and entrepreneurship you have no reason to get started in business web development. If you have never read a book on business or entrepreneurship then you might want to start there instead. Entrepreneurs and business minded people see how much money is made on the web and they immediately get excited about the opportunity to do the same. The main reason I started Business Blogger is so that I can tell my story to you, so let’s get going.
I noticed that the Internet wasn’t going away any time soon and at the time I was getting bored with my graduate course work, so I decided to take an HTML class. This class taught me the basics and by the time it was finished I had no problem hand coding a web page. For a business web developer a good grasp of these basic programming skills is paramount. This was the foundation that really got the ball rolling.
Basic programming is one of many hats you will wear as a business web developer. Unless you want to pay someone for every single little adjustment you make to your web pages then you really need to have a good grasp of basic programming concepts. Since most people can’t afford to pay a programmer for everything they want, learning the basic programming skills themselves is a must. You should get started by learning basic HTML however you can, whether it’s through a school or self taught. Already possessing these skills puts you on the fast track to becoming a business web developer.
I really enjoyed what I learned in class, so I decided that I wanted to learn more. The next step in the knowledge process was learning how to hand code more complex web pages using just WordPad. This was a great learning experience that enabled me to teach myself even more about programming, different techniques, languages and other pieces of the puzzle that go into creating a great web page. Going down this route opened my eyes to CSS and other important skill sets that I still use today.
When getting started you may need some help. I turned to W3.org. This is a great resource that helped me to learn and advance my skills further than my basic class allowed. With a little effort and a lot of passion for business you too can become a business web developer. If you want to get started in business web development it’s not too late to start learning the basics.
